Caring For Teak Outdoor Furniture

Care and Cleaning / August 26,2013

Teak outdoor furniture is among the best quality outdoor furniture you can find on the market. It's not only great for the outdoors, but it's easy to care for as well. In order to stop dust and dirt from building up, make sure you wipe it over regularly. You can use water on a low pressure to rinse any access grime and debris away. Then use a soft brush to rub the wood with warm water mixed with dishwashing liquid. You can also add a couple of tablespoons of bleach to the mixture.

Use caution with the amount of bleach you use. Too much bleach will turn your furniture a lighter colour. After this, rinse down everything with water and wipe the surfaces dry using towels. When teak furniture is outside it will slowly fade in colour. While it may start as a honey tone, it will eventually fade to a gray patina. This is a normal process and has nothing to do with the quality or durability of your patio furniture. If you want to restore the honey colour to your teak furniture you can use a teak sealer on it every twelve months after it's been cleaned.

When looking for a cover for your outdoor teak furniture, avoid plastic and instead opt for a breathable material so that mold won't be able to grow. A little care for your teak furniture will ensure it looks good for decades to come.
