New easier-to-clean materials mean home decorators need no longer have an aversion to this colour scheme in the outdoors.

Bright yellows, blues, reds and leafy greens add vibrancy to UK gardens.

Wood

Timber is a good low-maintenance choice for the outdoors. Unlike many materials, weathering only adds to its charm over the years, noted Nicola Gidlow, outdoor living buyer for John Lewis.

Woven

Wicker and rattan lend a modern twist to any outdoor space. They are equally suited to a conservatory or out on the terrace, said Gidlow.

Metalwork

Wirework is popular not just because it is elegant, but because people are drawn to its craftsmanship, according to Adrian Rayment of Rayment Wire.
